Starting from 2003, the Company has been audited and approved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) for a total of 65 times by PHILIPS, Wal-Mart, Disney, DSG and other international clients. In regard to company ethics, supply chain security, labor rights, occupational health and safety, environmental protection and other various aspects, TCL has reacted positively to CSR requirements as an upper stream company. Following advanced international standards, the Company’s sense of social responsibility and CSR performance continuously improves. In October 2006, to meet to the CSR standards from different clients, the Company introduced the SA8000 global social accountability standard on its own initiative to establish a sound mechanism of social responsibility management, which enhanced the Company’s CSR performance systematically and sustainably.

In addition to the establishment of strict self-disciplined CSR standards, TCL also seeks to infiltrate its own CSR standards into the upstream and downstream supply chain related to the enterprise, to establish a complete TCL supplier management system and make clear of the requirements of supplier selection, control and evaluation and develop TCL Supplier Certification Tool (SCT) to meet the standard of advanced international enterprises.

To be committed to developing green products
As global energy prices amount, the issue of power consumption of household appliances has become a hot topic and common concern. As one of the largest domestic appliance manufacturers, TCL is always on the forefront of the industry in terms of environmental control and energy saving. In recent years, products developed by TCL Corporation always took a lead in applying innovative ideas on low energy consumption and low emissions. The Company has made major achievement in technical innovation and transformation, making a positive contribution in leading the green consumption of multimedia and household appliances in China.
-To develop green multimedia products
TCL began to implement energy-saving product development strategy in color TV a decade ago. All current color TV sets are energy-saving products with less than 3W of power consumption on a standby mode.
In 2002, TCL TV got China’s first energy-saving certification. Since then, up to a hundred color TV products have got energy-saving certification.
In recent years, TCL adopted optical injection technology and other innovative processes in manufacturing with special high-gloss materials, special molding equipment made by new molding technology, and special supporting injection molding facility. In terms of appearance, quality and environmental protection, high-gloss products are better than ordinary plastic products. The implementation of optical injection process reduces spray and other high-polluting processes and achieves zero-emission of waste water, gas and oil residue, thus significantly reduced environmental pollution and the power / water consumption per unit of output.
-To develop green household appliances
In December 2004, TCL air conditioner launched the photo-catalytic composite nano-silver titanium dioxide technology for the first time in China, initiating a new concept of energy-saving air-conditioning. It also solved the weakening cooling efficiency with the passage of time that troubles the air-conditioning industry for a long time, thus is of great significance to promote technological progress in China’s air-conditioning industry. A series of tracking and monitoring confirmed that the long-term efficiency of air-conditioner can be improved by more than 3% by applying the technology. Calculated on the annual sales of TCL air- conditioning products, 19 million kilowatt hours can be saved each year.
The parallel flow condenser technology innovatively developed by TCL air conditioner uses the heat exchanger principles of parallel flow condenser in automobile air conditioning and is successfully applied to a number of new products after several optimizations, which can improve product energy efficiency while lowing the cost, improve short-term energy efficiency by more than 6% and long-term energy efficiency by more than 5%.
White electronic home appliances
In the process of development, TCL white electronic home appliances strictly check the materials related to environmental safety. TCL place a high priority on energy consumption, health and safety issues. Even though the national energy consumption requirements of refrigerators and freezers are met, the Company continuously optimizes and upgrades the technology of power consumption control for refrigerator and freezer products.
Most refrigerator products currently have reached Level 1 of the National Energy Efficiency. If energy efficiency is improved from Level 2 to Level 1, more than 200 million kilowatt hours can be saved, calculated on ten years of refrigerator service life and 400,000 sets of annual output.
To create industrial circular economy to build an environmental-friendly Future
On April 13, 2011, TCL-AOBO Environmental Protection and Development Co., Ltd. went into production. It marked the completion of the most technologically advanced household appliance recycling project which involved the largest amount of investment in China. Phase 1 project of TCL-AOBO commissioned will reach 100,000 tons (3 million units) of used household appliance processing capacity, with an average re-commercialization rate of 85-90% or more. With this, TCL became the first domestic enterprise creating circular economy for household appliance industrial chain.

TCL-AOBO Environmental Protection and Development Co., Ltd. is scientific development concept-oriented and follows the idea of production circular economy. With exported used household appliances as raw materials, the company uses advanced European, Japanese and home-grown recovering, disassembling and recycling technologies to transform these solid wastes into renewable resources, to provide raw materials for the manufacturing industry and establish a circular economy industrial chain.

AOBO project closely centers around the "reduction, reuse and recycling" of resource utilization to realize the most efficient use and maxim recycling of resources based on the whole-process control concept including pollutant discharge reduction, process control, end-of-pipe treatment and transform waste into resources, thus to produce the minimal waste, and increase the efficiency in resource, energy, and ecological system. It established a waste plastics recycling system, comprehensively promoting resource recycling, conservation, complex utilization and clean production. It also made resource utilization efficiency, pollutant discharge and other indicators reach or approach the advanced level in the same trade in China and achieved circular economy.
As a large-scale manufacturer of electronic appliances, TCL takes practical actions to contribute to environmental protection in China, and has achieved green recycling and sustainable development. With the green design and manufacturing of products and the innocuous recovery and disposal of electrical and electronic products, TCL hopes to ultimately realize the ecological cycle of the whole industrial chain.
