How to Create the Ultimate Sports Experience in Your Own Home

Covid-19 restrictions are making it difficult to attend sports events in person this summer, but you can still stream live sports from the comfort of your own home. With a quality TV, superior sound bar, and the right lounge set up, you can enjoy all the action with your family and closest mates.

Read on for our tips on how to create the ultimate sports experience in your own home!

TV Selection

A special sporting occasion, such as the Australian Open (taking place in Melbourne Park from 8-21 February 2021), warrants splashing out on a new high definition, flat screen TV. Now’s the time to go bigger and better, so every play (and replay) can be seen in detail.

You can’t go wrong with TCL’s 8K and 4K Mini LED 75 inch TVs, both offer a superior viewing experience. Two must-have features these TVs provide for watching fast-paced sports like tennis are Clear Motion Rate (CMR) and a wide viewing angle. CMR provides a smooth frame transition and reduces the amount of noticeable blur of the ball. You can also accommodate all your friends when watching a tennis final together.

If you have the space, then TCL has even bigger screen sizes with 85 inch and 100 inch TVs. With a larger screen you’ll benefit from an even wider viewing angle and crystal clear detail, from the frowns of concentration, to each bead of sweat. The good news about buying a TV of this size is that with HDR you don’t have to worry about sitting too close as the picture won’t pixelate.

After the tennis is over, your TV won’t languish on the wall either. With a range of built-in streaming services, you can watch live sports events throughout the year ‘til your heart's content. You can also access Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime, and Google Movies for a cinema-like experience with family, friends, or some well deserved ‘me time’.

Sound Bars to Enhance the At Home Experience

If you haven’t used a sound bar before then you’ll be amazed at the difference one makes. TCL’s wireless sound bars give you better quality audio from your TV, plus they’re simple to set up and don’t take up much space.

Our choice is the Ray Danz Soundbar with Dolby Atmos, offering an immersive sound experience so you’ll feel like you're right there at the stadium. It works with Bluetooth, Google Assistant and Apple Airplay.

Seat Comfort and Room Layout

Watching live sports is always more fun with a bunch of mates to share the experience. But you’ll need to set up the TV and room to make sure everyone can watch the event easily and comfortably.

The TV should be eye-level when seated, and free of glare. A wall mount with a tilting bracket can help angle it away from reflections during the day. If you’re watching at night then don’t rely on overhead lighting, it’s hard on the eyes. Table lamps, floor lamps and dimmable wall sconces are a better solution.

No doubt you have a main sofa and armchairs but offer alternative seating (dining chairs, cushions, bean bags) so people don’t have to sit close to each other if they don’t want to.

Most importantly, make sure food, snacks and drinks are easily accessible to keep energy levels high. Ideally you want to have hot food on the kitchen counter so people can grab a plate and load up. Place a few bowls of snacks around the room as well, e.g on the coffee table in front of the TV or accent tables at the side.

Food and Snacks

Not sure what food and snacks serve on game day? You can’t go wrong with a variety of hot and cold finger foods. Here are some ideas to keep hunger at bay:

● Chips and dip

● Pretzels

● Popcorn

● Hot dogs

● Mini sliders

● Mini meat (or veggie) pies

● Mini pizzas

● Sausage rolls

● Cheese and crackers

● Hummus and carrot sticks

● Roasted nuts

● Garlic bread

● Fruit skewers

● Mixed sweets

Ask guests to BYO for drinks but for those who forget (there’s always one!) have a selection of wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks on hand to serve too.

COVID-19 Safety

We all want to enjoy entertaining our friends and family but it is important to be aware of ways we can keep our loved ones safe from the spread of COVID19. Practice good hygiene, regular hand washing and social distancing whenever possible.

TCL encourages everyone to actively participate in the COVID safe practices outlined by officials in their area.
