Why Can't Your Fire TV Device Connect to Wi-Fi?

Make sure to attempt to establish a connection with your Wi-Fi network in between each step:

1. Begin by restarting your Fire TV device. Unplug it, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in.

2. Check the status of your network on the Fire TV device:

   - Navigate to Settings.

   - Select Network.

   - Locate your network name.

   - Press Play/Pause on your remote to view the network status and proceed with the suggested actions.

   - Pro tip: On compatible devices, you can also opt for Run Speed Test or Advanced to access detailed connection information. For further insights, refer to the Fire TV Network Status Tool guide.

 3. If you are still unable to establish a connection or cannot find your network name, scroll down to Wi-Fi. Toggle the Wi-Fi off and then back on.

 4. Forget your Wi-Fi network and retry the connection. Ensure you have your Wi-Fi password and network name on hand. If you need help locating your password, refer to the Locate Your Wi-Fi Password resource. Follow these steps to forget your network:

   - Go to Settings on your Fire TV.

   - Select Network.

   - Find your network name.

   - Press the Menu button followed by the Select button on your remote to forget the network.

 5. Reboot your modem and router. If feasible, bring your Fire TV device and router into closer proximity. To restart your home network devices:

   - Unplug both your modem and router and wait for a minute.

   - Plug in the modem first and wait for the lights to illuminate and for it to establish an internet connection (approximately 1 minute).

   - Subsequently, plug in your router and wait for the lights to activate and for it to connect to the internet (around 1 minute).

 6. Keep in mind: If several devices on your home network have recently disconnected, you might be experiencing a network outage. For additional assistance, refer to the Troubleshooting Network Outage guide.

 7. Reset your Fire TV device to its factory settings. Fire TV devices equipped with Wi-Fi 6E offer enhanced speeds, broader bandwidth, and reduced latency due to their support for connections on the 6 GHz band. This mitigates device overcrowding on a Wi-Fi network, resulting in superior performance. To optimize the performance of your Wi-Fi 6E device:

   - Upgrade to a router that supports Wi-Fi 6E or a higher Wi-Fi generation. For larger residences, consider mesh routers for comprehensive home coverage.

   - Configure the router to broadcast the same network name (SSID) across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. This enables the Fire TV device to automatically connect to the most efficient band based on signal strength from the Wi-Fi router.
