‘Tis the season, the Halloween season that is. During a recent visit to Rite Aid, I noticed they had smoothly transitioned from back-to-school directly into Halloween displays, which I thought was completely insane. October has barely started! However, upon further thought, I realized that this wasn’t such a bad thing after all. Horror movies are possibly the best genre of any kind of movies, and Halloween is the scariest holiday out there right now. Any excuse to watch a horror movie is a good excuse to me, so here’s a guide to some of the scariest stuff streaming.

Shudder

Shudder is the premiere streaming app for the horror genre. With almost four hundred horror movies available to stream, it’s got everything there to scare you from old to new. Available for the extremely low price of 3.99/mo. with a one-week free trial, Shudder is definitely the app with all of your seasonal favorites. Here are a few of mine: Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Evil Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the new Blair Witch Project, Cannibal Holocaust, and many many more.

Netflix

We all know and love Netflix, so this next list should be a pretty appccessible one. While they might not have as many horror films as other sites, Netflix is always there and the scare level is just as high. Keep in mind that this list may change as the holiday gets closer and the world gets spookier. Here are a few of my favorites available right now: American Horror Story (8 seasons), The Conjuring, It Follows, The Sixth Sense, Cube, The Sharknado series, and The Babadook.

Hulu

While Hulu is much more thought of as a TV app instead of one for movies, their horror films currently available are absolutely choice. Here’s what they’ve got: American Psycho, The Fly, Paranormal Activity series, Carrie, The Hills Have Eyes, I Saw the Devil.

Amazon Prime

Possibly the best part of Amazon is that anything not available can be bought or rented. However, their current selection is nothing to sleep on: American Horror Story, Jaws, American Psycho, The Blair Witch Project, The Beyond, Paranormal Activity series, Green Room, and more.

The Rest

Here’s sort of an amalgamation of the rest of the free apps that I’ll use. These titles can be from Kanopy, Hoopla, TubiTV, or Crackle, it just made more sense to consolidate these apps because there’s a lot of carryover. Keep Crackle in mind for the month of October though, as it seems their horror titles expand a lot in that month each year. Here’s the list: Insidious, most of the Saw movies, Sympathy for Lady Vengence, John Dies at the End, Suspiria (see the original before the remake comes out in November!), Eraserhead, the original Japanese version of The Grudge, and many more.

And of course, anything else you’d wanna watch from Halloween to The Shining can probably be found for rent on Amazon, Vudu, YouTube, iTunes, or Google Play.

There you have it, everything scary, spooky, and creepy that’s available to stream. Keep in mind that titles change constantly and more will probably be added closer to Halloween, further away from Rite-aid’s version of Halloween. Happy haunting!
