This month, the world’s technology companies descended on the desert oasis that is Las Vegas to show their latest innovations. The 2018 Consumer Electronics Show drew more than 180,000 attendees and 3,900 exhibitors who showcased world-changing technologies that spanned more than 2.75 million net square feet of exhibit space—the largest show floor in CES' 51-year history.
TCL was excited for CES, as it was a chance to show off the amazing products we have in store for customers this year. In addition to announcing new products, many of which were praised by top tech publishers, we also got to reflect on how far we’ve come as a brand and announce new commitments to sustainability.
Growth and Success
In 2017, TCL solidified its position as the world’s third largest and America’s fastest-growing TV brand. We saw over 130% growth in the U.S. as we continued to meet our customers’ demands for quality, value, and customer service. Our lineup of 4K Smart TVs saw huge success at prominent retailers. The launch of our 4K TVs with Dolby Vision HDR showed that we’re committed to delivering premium picture quality, and models like the P6-Series were met with rave reviews from consumers and publishers alike.
At TCL’s press conference ahead of CES’ opening, we highlighted many of these successes. The presentation also alluded to the continued momentum we’re expecting in 2018 as we double down on picture performance and enter a new product category that will help customers get even more from their home theater experience.
Commitment to Sustainability
TCL has long been committed to electronics recycling and we constantly push ourselves to make larger and more significant contributions toward a sustainable future. In 2017, we funded the recycling of over 7 million pounds of electronics. At this year’s CES, we announced an even bolder commitment for 2018.
We plan to double our electronics recycling commitments year-over-year. In addition, TCL announced its plans to provide consumers with a convenient, simple, and economical recycling solution for all TCL televisions. By 2020, TCL television owners anywhere in the United States will be able to conveniently and easily recycle their TVs. Lastly, we’ve also established goals for our packaging, which call for a full 40% increase in the inclusion of recycled content, while enabling at least 40% of packaging to be easily recycled at no cost to the consumer.
New TVs, New Tech, and Even Audio Products
At the end of the day, the products are what make CES exciting. And, we had plenty of new products to show! TCL announced that it is building on its award-winning TCL Roku TVs featuring Dolby Vision HDR with two new lines – the 5-Series and 6-Series – to deliver outstanding picture performance at an incredible value.
The all-new 2018 lineup strengthens its reputation for picture performance with increased Contrast Control Zones for the 6-Series, delivering exceptionally bright whites and deep blacks, a new iPQ Engine for controlled and precise color reproduction, and HDR Pro Gamma for impactful HDR performance in any environment. These highly anticipated new models arrive this spring.
Plus, we were thrilled to announce our entry into an all-new category with the TCL Alto line of audio products. The TCL Roku Smart Soundbar, our first product in the Alto family, will offer premium sound, while taking advantage of Roku Connect to connect to other AV devices. It will also allow for intuitive voice control through the new Roku Entertainment Assistant. Launch podcasts, movies and TV shows from your favorite services with a simple voice command! Look for the TCL Roku Smart Soundbar in late 2018.
Leaving Las Vegas
CES is the world's gathering place for innovation and once again TCL was proud to be a big part of it. Ten years ago, TCL was one of many brands that showed up to CES and struggled to be noticed. Through continued innovation, consistently delivering higher quality products with better picture, and making it easier than ever for consumers to stream their favorite content, TCL has become a brand that today takes center stage at CES.
We’ve worked hard to improve upon our best products, and thankfully the tech industry is noticing. Our newly announced 6-Series, the successor to the award-winning P6-Series, received kudos from Engadget, AVS Forum, Gear Patrol, HD Guru, and Reviewed.com, to name a few, and even took home Best of CES awards from many top tech publishers. Our entry into home theater audio also earned plenty of attention, thanks to its innovative smart features, and was praised by PC Mag, AVS Forum, and others. As we look back on all the excitement of CES one thing is clear: the year ahead looks very bright.
