Enjoying a series on our televisions is a great way to spend an eve or two and relax after a long day. But, we no longer need to rely on our cable provider to watch a live show or movies in our house – on-demand streaming services are on the rise, and everyone with a smart TV is making use of them.

That being said, there are far too many shows and movies live for you to be able to keep track of all of them. And if you aren’t sure where to begin, we’ve got you covered. Below we’ll be discussing some of the most iconic TV series and where to watch them, so grab your pen and let’s get to it!

Our Choice: The Best TV Shows

The Witcher

Available on Netflix

The Witcher is probably one of the best must-watch series from the past couple of years - a fantasy series that combines elements from various cult movies and shows and puts them all into the one story of Geralt of Rivia.

The friendly witcher himself, Geralt, is played by Henry Cavill, and the show is based on the comic books. It’s not the only thing based on them either – The Witcher is also a very popular game series with the same name, but the show is just something else.

The show follows Geralt, a friendly muscle-for-hire famous for killing monsters that bother the locals and cause problems all around. Other people to take note of are Yennefer, a sorceress in training who can’t keep her emotions to herself when she’s around Geralt, and Jaskier, the loveable yet boring bard who follows him around wherever he goes.

Unfortunately, whatever else we tell you about the show is going to be a massive spoiler, so we’re going to stop here and suggest you check it out as soon as possible. It’s the perfect show for binge-watching, so make sure you’ve got a few hours, or even better, an entire eve to spare in front of your televisions.

Game of Thrones

Available on HBO

Even though the 7th season was a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to people’s opinions, Game of Thrones is still one of the best shows that’s ever been filmed. From the storyline to the screenplay and acting, it’s excellent in every possible regard.

It’s based on George R. R. Martin’s bestselling book series with the same name, and the plot in Game of Thrones is wrapped in intrigue and politics. There is a plot twist every once in a while that’s going to leave you impatiently waiting for the next episode.

It’s obvious that HBO’s budget went a long way towards ensuring this show was made just right, and there’s incredible attention to detail, every step of the way. From cliffhangers to moments that leave you in awe, this show’s got it all. By all means, give it a chance.

Breaking Bad

Available on Netflix

The story of Walter White is one that’s going to have people struggling to find time to watch more episodes, even though that means you’ll probably be late for work. Binging this show is going to result in an emotional rollercoaster, but even if you take your time, the entire series is just incredible.

Critics call it a masterpiece when it comes to long-format storytelling, and every time you think you know what’s going to happen next, Breaking Bad will surprise you. And in a good way – the creators are keen on showing the complexities of human behavior, and you’ll be astonished by the tools they use.

Without revealing too much about it, Breaking Bad focuses on Walter White, a friendly high school chemistry teacher who decides to put his knowledge into use to make crystal meth. The show follows his history, his family, and is full of plot twists, and has an undeniably great overall story.

Each season feels simultaneously like a part of something bigger, and it is a show that is definitely going to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Rick & Morty

Available on HBO

If you’re keen on animated comedies and want one that’ll provide you many laughs per episode, Rick & Morty is the perfect show for you. It combines science fiction with comedy in a way we haven’t seen from any other show. And don’t listen to the haters – the show is far from dead.

The problem with Rick & Morty is that once you start, it’s impossible to stop. Sure, it’s fun to watch an episode and then be on your way, but with Rick & Morty you’ll find yourself watching multiple episodes every eve.

The entire show is incredibly engaging, with twists and turns at every step of the way, making for an incredible experience.

Hannibal

Available on Netflix

If you’re into serial killer media and TV shows concerning the dead, Hannibal is an excellent choice, covering the life and story of Dr. Hanibal Lecter. The doctor, seemingly friendly at first, is called upon by Will Graham and an FBI unit to help with the tracking down and apprehension of a serial killer.

However, as the show progresses, the relationship between Hannibal and Will grows stronger, and Will begins suspecting that Hannibal might have a hand to play in the murders.

The series is a masterpiece in pretty much every way, from the story to the screenplay and acting (especially Mads Mikkelsen, who appears to be a perfect fit for the role of Hannibal). It’s unique in a weird way, and things get a lot more twisted as you keep watching – starting as a crime procedural mystery and turning into a straight-up horror story.

Stranger Things

Available on Netflix

It’s hard to tell whether Stranger Things is a series, miniseries, or a film – it gets rather confusing sometimes. The episodes are meant to be parts of a whole, and all together, they’re meant to resemble a film. It’s both a film and a miniseries at the same time.

The story revolves around a young boy, Will Byers, who disappears in a small town. Since everyone knows everyone, the whole town tries to find the boy, but what they find is a lot more – from government experiments to supernatural forces. We aren’t going to spoil it for you, and since it’s a miniseries, you should definitely watch if you have the opportunity.

Friends

Available on Netflix

Even though at this point the show is over 15 years old, Friends is one of those comedies you just don’t want to miss, and it’s still live on Netflix! At about 20 minutes each, you can easily squeeze a few episodes, and a whole-day marathon will easily have you watching over an entire season.

The plot has to do with six friends, all of which have their own quirky personalities and hang out with each other on the daily at each other’s house or the local cafe. Not only is each episode a story in itself, but there’s a background story that involves all characters that you’ll love.

If you’re used to modern humor and comedies, Friends might not impress you too much. But, when it comes to the most iconic TV series and where to watch them, Friends on Netflix is one you must check out.

The Simpsons

Available on Disney+

You know a show is good when it runs for more than five or six seasons, and people still enjoy it, right? Well, how do over 30 seasons sound? Yes, we’re talking about The Simpsons, one of the most iconic comedies to ever air. While its peak was arguably between seasons 4 through 8, there’s a lot of great content to be enjoyed in the seasons before and after those, and it’s a great representation of the animated comedy genre.

The adventures of Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and all the other characters aren’t something we can get into without revealing spoilers, so we’ll leave them for you to watch and enjoy. You’ll be laughing more often than you’d think, and the script is great too – it’s all a bit of a crazy house really.

Peaky Blinders

Available on Netflix

Who doesn’t want a bit of good old crime drama? If you do, Peaky Blinders should be right up your alley, and it’s definitely one on the list of most iconic TV series ever filmed in the genre. Cillian Murphy plays the loveable Thomas Shelby - the show’s anchor, and oh boy does he do a great job at it.

The series covers the Shelby family’s business in and around Birmingham, in the early 20th century. What starts as a small family turns into a force to be reckoned with, with actors such as Tom Hardy and Adrien Brody joining later down the line to add their own flair.

It’s impossible to get into details without revealing key plot elements, so instead, we’ll just suggest that you check Peaky Blinders out yourself – it’s not a show you’re going to regret watching!
