TCL are counting down the days to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and getting ready to cheer on the Australian team. We’re proud to be major sponsors of the global tournament which kicks off in Beijing on the 31st of August.

To determine the FIBA champions, a total of 92 games will be played in eight different cities in China, a first-time FIBA host, over 16 days. There are a record 32 teams competing from the Americas, Asia, Oceania, Africa and Europe.

All teams were divided into eight groups from a live draw back in March. Australia is in Group H playing against Canada, Senegal, Lithuania, and this has been labelled the ‘Group of Death’ because of the difficult competition we will face.

Group H has the top-seeded Lithuanians ranking 6, with two key NBA players, 7ft center Jonas Valanciunas and 6ft 11 Domantas Sabonis. Canada is ranked 23 and also has NBA-level talent, Senegal is ranked 37 overall, but holds a regional rank of 2 in Africa.

Australia is ranked 11 and has 11 players currently playing for the NBA. Unfortunately our ‘secret weapon’ Ben Simmons, who already boasts a ridiculous resume at the young age of 23, who was selected to his first NBA All-Star team during the 2018-19 season and is fresh off signing the biggest deal ever by an Australian athlete, won’t be representing his national team in order to prepare fully for his upcoming season with the Philadelphia 76ers.

But with Aussie determination, the team can pull through. The Australian squad still consists of reliable NBA stars Joe Ingles, Matthew Dellavedova, Andrew Bogut and Patty Mills to make up for Simmons absence.

With top teams competing in Group H, there will be no room for mistakes if Australia wants to advance through to the final rounds.

Previous FIBA winners, USA took home the gold medal in 2014 but they’ve also had drama with their squad selection. Big name players such as Anthony Davis, James Harden and Damian Lillard have dropped out of the pool so there’s a very real chance that an upset might be on the cards.

The championship playoff for the FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held in Beijing on 15 September.

Large Screen Size

Go big! New UHD TVs have superior technology so you you can go for the larger screen size without compromising viewing quality or ruining your eyes. If you’re a die hard sports fan then a big screen TV like a TCL 65” QLED will get a lot of use and allow you to enjoy the feeling of being immersed in the action.

Motion Technology

When you’re watching fast paced action like basketball, you want to ensure your viewing experience is crystal clear. Features such as motion-smoothing MEMC technology keep motion trails to a minimum so you’ll get a smoother picture with even less blur. Check out the TCL 75” QUHD which has a Clear Motion Rate of 400 (a higher number means the TV can better keep up with the action).

Great Picture Quality

Who wants dull colour and a blurry picture when you’re watching your favourite team? Make sure your big screen TV has 4K UHD so you can enjoy vivid colour and razor-sharp clarity so you never miss a shot. Check out TCL’s range of 4K UHD TVs.

With your new big screen TCL UHD Android TV, you’ll feel like you’re right there courtside rooting for the Australian team!
